For me what’s interesting is where stillness and action are combined. -Claudia Aronow

Gerald Peters Gallery, New York, is pleased to present an exhibition of recent work by contemporary painter, Claudia Aronow. Curated by Peter Marcelle, this will be the artist’s first solo exhibition in New York.

Influenced by the likes of Brice Marden and Jackson Pollock, Aronow’s dynamic works strike a delicate balance between gestural abstraction and the specificity of traditional painting. Her large scale paintings are precise and yet expressive, a marriage of two disparate impulses. Rhythmic circles and curves, generated by total body engagement, transmit color and line. Sweeping arcs are methodically enclosed within the perpendicular confines of canvas.

Aronow’s mastery of shadow, depth and form, reveal her academic training. She studied classical painting and drawing with Anthony Ryder in France and at the National Academy. Additionally she studied sculpture with Chaim Gross at Parsons School of Design. Aronow transitioned from representational to non- objective painting in 2000. Her work is included in numerous public, private and corporate collections.

Aronow lives and works in New York City and the East End of Long Island.

Please join us for the opening reception with the artist, Wednesday, December 10th, 2014.
