Gerald Peters Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition of over thirty new works by renowned sculptor and glass blower Dale Chihuly. The glass artist is widely known to have led the avant-garde in the development of glass blowing as an art and introduced a broader contemporary interest in glass as a self expressionist medium. This exhibition displays his stylized vision, taking the viewer on a colorful whirlwind of theoretical hybrid forms to a neo-baroque plateau of one’s wildest imagination. These works of art instill delight, wonder, and amazement with sheer excitement for ages of all. The awe-inspiring glass pieces, from his organic shapes to his recent black glass series have defined Chihuly as the world’s premiere glass artist. His work is included in over one hundred and sixty museum collections worldwide, including the Dallas Museum of Art.

In addition to his traditional Persian, Macchia and Basket forms, this show will celebrate new designs, which include several drawings, wall sconces and in particular, a series of black glass elements. The black series are sexy, sleek and sophisticated – a more minimal approach for the commonly colorful artist. Yet for those classic Chihuly admirers, on display will also be new forms unfurled from the artist’s delectable palette of vivid colors. The unpredictable twists and turns bursting with color and winding with spontaneity offer almost a seductive proponent.

Dale Chihuly has been the recipient of many awards, including honorary doctorates from the University of Puget Sound, the Rhode Island School of Design, and the California College of Arts and Crafts. He has also been honored with two fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts, the American council for the Arts Visual Artist’s Award, and the Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award. In 1992, Chihuly was named the first National Living Treasure by the United States’ fifty governors.
