Gerald Peters Gallery has selected the always admirable, honorary Texas artist Dan Rizzie to feature as their last exhibition at the Fairmount St. location on Friday, Oct 5th from 6-8pm. On view will be approximately thirty new canvases, collage and prints with the artist in attendance. As Chairman of the Board of the New York Academy of Art, Randy Lerner states, “People come at making their art from any number of personal journeys – some real, some imaginative, some superbly dramatic and some, like Dan Rizzie’s, simply destined to be the raw material for a far-ranging language of symbols…”

Harvesting influences from countries that span the globe, Rizzie imbues signs and textures in this new body of work that also span his career as an artist. Notable in his methodology one will find hints of geometric configurations most prevalent from his work of the 1980s. More recently, the evolution of his acute observations from nature have resulted in what has been coined the “vascular systems” of his leaves, flowers, balls and birds. There is a harmonious and rhythmic allure akin to a great musical composition. This is no surprise considering the many musicians befriended to the artist.

Rizzie has exhibited in major cities throughout the world including Houston, Santa Fe, New Orleans, San Francisco, New York, West Palm Beach, Mexico City, Cologne and London. His work can be found in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern Art and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York; the Dallas Museum of Art; the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and many corporate and private collections throughout the United States. The artist currently resides in Sag Harbor, New York.
